August 9, 1952 - June 7, 2020
Norman A. Samson, 67, resident of Lakeland, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, June 7th. He was born in Cornwall, Ontario and moved to the United States with his parents when he was 4 years old. Norm enlisted in the US Navy in 1971, was stationed in the Philippines, and served on the USS enterprise during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1975. After serving in the military he obtained his Cosmetology License and worked as a hair stylist at local hair salons. He eventually opened Norman Samson Salon, then Samson & Company, a salon in Syracuse, where he worked until his death. Norm was an avid golfer and was a member of the Bellevue Country Club. He was also active in several local groups including the American Legion, VFW, and Elks Lodge. As a musician he played the guitar, saxophone, and his conch shell horn skills and famous porch bell were enjoyed by all who spent time with him in his home. Norm was a phenomenal cook and he enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting. His sense of humor and generosity was a gift to everyone who knew and loved him. It will be hard to forget someone who gave everyone so much to remember. Norman was predeceased by his wife, Charlene (Mineault) Samson, his parents, Jeunard and Georgette (Lamesse) Samson, and brother, David Samson. He is survived by his sister, Lisa M. Samson, of Pulaski; his niece, Danielle Samson-Keiber; his aunts, uncles, and cousins in Canada, and his loving partner, Sophia Wales, of Camillus. Due to Covid 19, a Catholic Mass will be celebrated for Norman and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Syracuse VA Medical Center Homeless Veteran’s Program, 800 Irving Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210 or https://www.syracuse.va.gov/services/homeless/index.asp. BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, Solvay, has care of arrangements. Please share online memories and tributes at www.bagozzitwins.com.
