SYLVESTER VOLTURNO

Sylvester Volturno, age 92, of Camillus, NY, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2021 with his devoted and amazing wife beside him. He was being visited and comforted by family members at the time of passing. Sylvester was born March 13, 1929 to the late Giuseppe “Joseph” Volturno and Vita Maria Lotito. He worked devotedly to provide for his family and committed his professional life serving his country. He proudly served in the US Army at the end of WW2 and during the Korean War, and later worked for General Electric on state of the art technology starting in Alaska and eventually long term in the Middle East. As he would say, he was doing everything he could to make the world a better place. Sylvester was known for being an avid sportsman, obsessively keeping up with world and national events, singing and joking. He displayed high integrity, honor, and being a loving father and grandfather. If you heard his stories, he could be the most interesting man in the world. Sylvester is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frederic Roy, Domenico, Angelo, and Vincent Volturno; sisters, Josephine “Josie” Gaudio, Mary Louise Gerace, Rose Alessio, and Anne Hughes; son, Joseph “Joey” Volturno; granddaughter, Gina Marquette, and many friends he made over his career. Sylvester is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lourdes (Peralta) Volturno, of Camillus, NY; daughters, Deborah Volturno, of Port Angeles, WA; Dorothy “Dody” (Ricky) Marquette, of Bedford, VA; Diane (Michael) Fuller, of Nashville, TN; Jeanette Volturno, of El Segundo, CA; son, Anthony “Tony” (Kristen) Volturno, of Camillus, NY; grandchildren, Harley Marquette, Alexandra “Alex” Brill, James Volturno, and Elysia Volturno; nephews, Gene Gerace, Rod Volturno, and John Volturno; many cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and friends, John Hyatt and Pete Sweet. Calling Hours will be Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave, Solvay, from 4 – 6 pm with a Life’s Reflection following. Funeral services and interment in Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse are private.
