LAURA (PALLADINO) PENNY

On Oct 31, 2017 Laura Penny, 93, joined her husband, Francis, in heaven. Laura “Lorraine”, was born to the late Peter and Carmina Palladino in Solvay, New York on July 7, 1924. Laura was blessed with a large and loving family, 5 sisters (Fay, Mary, Antoinette, Genevieve and Yolanda) and 3 brothers (Nicholas, Dominic and Peter). Laura graduated from Solvay High School and married Francis Penny in 1945 in Solvay, NY. During her life, she worked for Carrier Corporation and as a teaching assistant for St Lucy’s Academy and the Syracuse School District. She also spent many hours in volunteer work at St Lucy’s Church in Syracuse and Holy Family Church in Fairmount. Laura enjoyed wintering in Daytona Beach, Florida from 2003 until she moved to Port Orange year round in 2016. Laura spent her last months in the loving care of Countryside Lakes ALF in Port Orange, Florida. She always had an unusual ability to connect with anyone. Even in her 90's she would go up to a complete stranger and engage him in a conversation. During these times when people become more socially isolated and cell phone focused, Laura was a model of reaching out and helping people to connect with one another. Laura never forgot a birthday or anniversary or graduation. Very inclusive, no one was ever left out of a party or celebration. She exuded the joy of being part of a big extended Italian family. She was known for her quick wit, wisdom and enduring sense of humor to be able to bring laughter and friendship throughout her journey through life. Laura is survived by her sister, Sister Robertine Palladino of North Syracuse, NY, her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Daniel Pels of Port Orange, Fl, her son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Penny of Schaghticoke, NY and her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Heather Penny of Afton, Va. Laura is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Laurie (Ken) Pels-Roulier, Jeffrey Penny, Christopher (Shaunda) Penny, Gopal Penny and Santosh Penny and 12 great grandchildren, Rita, Austin, Emma, April, Christian, Leah, Veronica, Gianna, Miryam and Anna Penny of Saratoga Springs and Ava and Logan Roulier of Hebron, Ct. She also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Family and friends may call from 4 - 7 pm Sunday, November 5th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Avenue, Solvay, NY. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, November 6th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. "A Mass of Commemoration" will be held in Port Orange, FL at a later date.
