JOSEPHINE (DeSANTIS) DeVOE

Josephine (DeSantis) DeVoe, 99, passed away at home on Monday, July 10, 2023 with her daughter by her side. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Crocker, of St Petersburg, FL. and her son, Donald Streib, of Marcellus, NY. She has 3 grandchildren, Aimee Koenig, of Charlotte, NC, David Streib, of Ithaca, NY and Sarah Personius, of Fulton, NY. She also has 4 great-grandchildren, Emilee and Ethan Keonig, Avi Schwartz-Streib, and Samuel Personius. In addition to her surviving younger sister, Corinne Luttmann, of Valley Forge, PA., Josephine also has scores of nephews, nieces and cousins. Born at home in Solvay, NY, on February 6, 1924, Jo was the 7th of 10 children of Nicola DeSantis and Pepina “Josephine” (De Gelormo “Jerome”) DeSantis. She was predeceased by her husband John DeVoe, by her sisters, Faye Bonacci, Lydia Ducett, Eleanor Baker, Mary Wozniak and her brothers, Joseph, Frank, Anthony and John. She graduated from Solvay High School and also the local Central Business Institute. She started her career as an employee of Solvay Process in the Technical Service Department and retired from Allied Chemical (the firm that purchased Solvay Process) in Morristown, NJ as a manager after 35 years of service. Josephine was quite athletic and enjoyed activities such as figure skating, downhill skiing and tap dancing. She was also an accomplished cook and baker. Her home was often filled with relatives and friends enjoying her kitchen skills. An interest of hers was looking up the meaning or derivation of the names of people she met and sharing this with them. In her youth she played the saxophone in church with her sister Lydia and throughout her life played the piano. She also was an avid church goer and active participant in senior fellowships. She also was a nature lover and was fascinated by cloud formations, watching birds feed and visiting waterfalls with her daughter throughout New York State. She would often say, “Thank you Lord for creating such wonders for us to enjoy on this earth. The “Love and Light” of Jesus Christ poured forth from her soul and she positively affected the lives of the people she came in contact with and those that she knew. Family and friends may call from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, July 14th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave, Solvay. Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM Saturday July 15th at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
