DR. JOSEPH N. POZZI

Dr. Joseph N. Pozzi, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on October 11, 2022. Born on June 12, 1930, to his parents, Joseph and Erna (Burrei) Pozzi, Joe was a lifelong resident of Solvay, New York. Joe was a 1948 graduate of Solvay High School. He continued his education at Eastern Michigan University, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Joe then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War, serving aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter USS Bibb. Upon his honorable discharge in 1955, he attended Georgetown University, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, graduating in 1959 Cum Laude and being honored with an election to Omicron Kappa Epsilon. From 1957 -1961, he also served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve, Dental Corps. Joe opened his dental office in 1959 in Mattydale, New York, where he continued in practice for over 40 years. He was a life member of the Fifth District Dental Society, the New York State Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. Joe was also a long-time member of Onondaga County Dental Society and Syracuse Dental Seminars where he served a term as President. Upon retirement, Dr. Pozzi joined St. Joseph’s Hospital Dental Clinic as an attending dentist from 2000-2007, where he served as a preceptor; providing advice and instruction to the residents on how to manage and treat their patients. Joe served on the Solvay School District Board of Education for 25 years, as its president for over 17; the treasurer, vice president, and member of the Board of Directors of the Onondaga Madison School Board Association; the Chairman of the Board of the Solvay Tyrol Club for over 15 years; member of the planning committee for the Central New York School Board Institution, and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Solvay. Joe loved his summers on Wellesley Island, cruising the St. Lawrence in his 1956 Chris Craft, and fishing with his buddies for northern pike and bass. Dr. Joe Pozzi was proud of his accomplishments and service to his patients, his community, his country and most importantly his family and friends. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Joan (Eggleston) Pozzi. He is survived by his daughter, Amy J. Pozzi of Cazenovia, his son, Joseph D. Pozzi of Baldwinsville, his granddaughters, Mia B. Pozzi and Giovanna L. Pozzi, his sister, Audrey Pozzi DeSantis of Wilmington, DE., several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his longtime companion Barbara Ann Hagan. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 18th from 4 to 7 pm at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Milton Ave. Solvay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19th at 10 am at St. Charles of Borromeo Church, 417 S. Orchard Rd. Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
