FREDERICK C. SHIBEL SR.

Frederick C Shibel Sr. 97 of Camillus NY, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024. Fred maintained a charming personality and a true passion for life right up to the end. Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Ungaro Shibel as well as several deceased siblings, Yvonne, Emily, Charles and Edmond. He is survived by his sister Vivian and his 4 children who he was so proud of Susan (Harry Horwitz), Jo Ann (Leslie Stone), Lynne Fisher and Frederick C. Shibel Jr. Also surviving him are his 6 Grandchildren who he utterly adored, Allison Stone, Laura Horwitz, Amy Kafaf, Ryan Fisher, Kara Juban and Morgan Shibel in addition Fred also is survived by his 3 great children Emilia, Sienna, and Leo. Born on February 28, 1927 in Lawrence, MA. to Charles and Mary Shibel, Fred enlisted in the Navy in 1944 during WWII. After the war he received undergraduate degrees in Industrial and Chemical engineering and went on to get his master’s in Chemical engineering from Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, Fred met the love of his life Joan Ungaro at a dance. As lore has it that night the song “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific played on several radio stations and that became their song. Whenever that song came on in the Shibel home they found each other for a quick dance. Fred was honored in 2022 to be aboard Honor Flight mission 017 which flew from Syracuse, NY to Washington, DC. He was a long time SU season ticket holder for Football and Basketball. Fred also enjoyed a good meal with family and friends especially Italian and Lebanese food. The Shibel Family will host a celebration of life reception on Saturday November 23, 2024, from 12-3 pm at Skaneateles CC, 3440 W. Lake Rd, Skaneateles 13152, all are welcome. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at The Nottingham (Syracuse), St. Anthony’s Rehabilitation Center (Auburn, NY) and Syracuse. Home (Baldwinsville, NY) and the VA Medical Center (Syracuse) for the love and care they provided. The Shibel Family would like to also thank his personal caregivers Lourese Davis, Pam Butler and Mary Oliver. The family also wants to thank Fred’s extended second family for always visiting him Jan, Ross and Hank.
