BARBARA (DeROPP) TORZON

Barbara (DeRopp) Torzon lived a life filled with love, generosity, and devotion to her family and faith especially her husband of 54 years. Barbara was born in Poznan, Poland on August 12, 1939 and immigrated to the United States during World War II passed away on April 3, 2024. She grew up in New York City and moved to Florida and Michigan before finding her home in Syracuse, NY. Throughout her life, Barbara spread warmth and kindness to everyone she met, treating friends and neighbors alike as cherished members of her extended family. Her strong Catholic beliefs led her to Holy Family Church where she volunteered countless hours, always doing for others. For over five decades, Barbara dedicated herself to BBX Inc, later acquired by Relco, where she served in various roles invaluable to its success. Her coworkers and customers regarded her as a second mother, a testament to her nurturing and caring nature. She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and valued, often affectionately calling them "sweetie pie." Family was the cornerstone of Barbara's life. Barbara is predeceased by her parents Stephen and Wanda (Gasiewicz) DeRopp, brother, Andrew and sister, Madeline as well as daughter, Jennifer Onorato. She was also the great-great niece of Francis Scott Key, author of the Star Spangled Banner, and relative of John Morton, first signer of the Declaration of Independence. She is survived by the love of her life, Francis Torzon, who has been by her side every day. Barbara's love and strength endured, leaving an indelible mark on her children, Andy DeLong, Mike (Rebecca) DeLong, Debbie Torzone, Sara (Rob) Remhild and Steve (Raelynn) Torzone will remember the joy she brought to the family. Her 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren will always remember her infectious laughter and the light she brought into their lives. As Barbara ascends to heaven, her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her. Though her physical presence may be gone, her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on, shaping the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed her path. Let us celebrate Barbara's 84 years on earth and the profound impact she had on her family and community. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be a guiding light, leading us through life's journey with love and grace. Barbara’s departure has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled, but her love will continue to inspire us and guide us until we meet again. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Wednesday April 10, 2024 at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr, Syracuse. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse.
